The streets of Grandview Heights will once again be filled with world-class cyclists, live music, and thousands of enthusiastic spectators when the gun sounds for the 24th Annual Tour de Grandview Cycling Classic presented by Lindsay Acura/Honda.
This cycling criterium and its accompanying street party draws hundreds of cyclists, both professional and amateur, and thousands of spectators. Homeowners along the course fill their lawns and sidewalks with chairs and blankets all in the spirit of cheering on the riders as they whirl through the charming neighborhood streets.
“We’re excited to continue in the tradition of bringing out top-tier riders to this celebrated race,” said race promoter Spencer Hackett of Cap City Cyclocross, LLC. “And the support of the Grandview community is unparalleled. It brings a special enthusiasm and energy to this race that the riders and spectators alike pick up on.”
The race course will start and finish on W. First Avenue between Glendale and Hope Avenues, and will include the well-known Bank Block on Grandview Avenue, as well as Willard and Second Avenues. The beloved Kids’ Sprints Competition will return, taking place along First Avenue, with prizes going to the fastest child riders in a variety of age groups. Events are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. and will run throughout the evening.
Going on around the races will be the annual Street Party, which this year will feature the music of Shaw Brothers, food trucks, and craft beers tapped by The Ohio Taproom. The street party occurs on Grandview Avenue, beginning at 2nd Avenue and ending at the northernmost parking lot entrance of the Bank Block Shopping Center.
New this year, The Tour de Grandview has established a partnership with the neighborhood’s annual Beer Festival, Digfest, which occurs the following night on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The race is being promoted alongside the festival under the hashtag #DigtheTour.
